Sr. Regina Plunkett, IHM
Greetings from Bishop Shanahan High School, my very own Alma Mater. May the Lord's peace be with you all!I would like to personally welcome you to our school community. Each and every day our faculty and staff are working hard to instill and encourage strong spiritual formation, academic excellence and participation in extracurricular opportunities.
Each new school year brings new wonders and joy to our Shanahan community with our students and all of their successes and accomplishments. For the past 5 years, our students have had 100% college acceptance rate and have scored hire in AP testing than PA and global scores as well.
The fall, winter and spring sports seasons also bring much excitement. We enjoy cheering on all of our sports teams after school and on weekends. In the fall, many students come together for the "Friday Night Lights" experience where they can cheer on our football and cheerleading teams, as well as the Marching and Pep Bands.
Other students enjoy becoming involved in our many clubs and activities, some of which include DECA (business club), Respect Life Club, Shanaviews (school newspaper), Channel 2 Mornings News, and Forensics Team. There are so many opportunities for our students to become involved and to explore their passions and interests. Between 42 clubs and activities, and 21 different sports teams, there is something for everyone at BSHS!
Finally, BSHS is uniquely Catholic, that is to say, we are truly "People of God; People for Others." Throughout the liturgical calendar we hold school-wide masses and the opportunity for confession. Each day we also offer morning mass in the chapel, and each Friday the exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Our many classes and clubs also commit to community service project including Charity Wednesday, Christmas Child Adoptions, Catholic Charities work, and so much more.
We hope that you will come and visit us in person to see what Shanahan is all about! All are welcome! Click here to schedule your visit today. Until then, may God bless you and your family.
God Bless You,
Michael J. McArdle
Welcome to Bishop Shanahan High School. It is my distinct honor and pleasure to serve as the Principal of BSHS.
My first priority as principal is to ensure that our school’s programs serve the mission of Catholic-Christian formation for all students. The tenets of our faith should imbue everything we do. At all times our students should be aware that they are a part of a Catholic school community that invites each of them to be faith-filled and to act accordingly.
Secondly, our school community engages in an intense pursuit of academic excellence. Using all the resources available to us, my colleagues and I provide our students with an academic program that is both rigorous and relevant, providing your children with the skills and knowledge necessary to become life-long learners.
Finally, BSHS provides the best extracurricular program possible. While I recognize it is “extra,” I have a strong belief that involvement in sports and activities reinforces and enhances a student’s educational experience. I encourage all our students to participate in the life of our school beyond the classroom. Here too, we should continually evaluate our programs to ensure that they are the best they can possibly be.
For me, all of this happens as part of a framework that recognizes the parents as the primary educators of their children. Our role is to support and partner with you in the challenging but sublime task of helping our young people to become thoughtful, faith-filled individuals committed to living lives of value.
