MUSIC PROGRAMS 

The Fine Arts Department of Bishop Shanahan has something for everyone, and because there are so many opportunities, the various divisions for participation, as well as the requirements are listed below. Please check the student handbook for the fees associated with club membership in the following activities.

Fine Arts Department Chairperson: Mr. Chuck Keating

Choral Director: Mrs. Marge Campbell

Mixed Chorus: This is a class which meets on Mondays and Wednesdays as a 9th period from 3:00 to 4:00pm. A semester calendar is distributed in September and in January. *There are no special requirements for belonging to this group except the desire to sing.

Choral Ensemble: This is a choir whose members already belong to the Mixed Chorus, and have passed an audition. It meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at the conclusion of the Mixed Chorus practice, from 4:00 to 4:30pm. A semester calendar is distributed in September and January. * Requirements for membership include an audition, and a better than average voice.

Select Chorus: This is a highly stylized ensemble whose members are appointed by the Choral Director. It meets from 4:30 to 5:30pm, at the conclusion of the Choral Ensemble practice. Some evening practices are to be expected, depending upon the performance schedule. * Requirements include an appointment by the Choral Director, and a willingness to strive for excellence in a select and demanding repertoire.

Cast of the Fall Musical: The fall musical meets from September to November, and members of the cast are by audition only.

Stage Crew: Members of the stage crew are by moderator selection. Students must be willing to devote many hours to this activity during the period of the fall musical.

Concert Band: This group of students meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:50 until 4:15pm. Private lessons are available. *Little or no prior experience is necessary to be part of this band.

Jazz Band: This band meets Tuesday and Thursday of each week from 4:15 until 5:30pm. *Students interested in Jazz become members by audition only.

Blues/Rock Band: This band meets Tuesday and Thursday of each week from 5:30 to 6:30pm. *Students can become members by audition only.

Orchestra: The Orchestra meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00pm. *The only requirement is an interest in music, and a willingness to devote time to practice.
