| Moderator: Mrs. Joan Hayes Meeting Day: Thursdays: 2:45 to 3:45 Frequency of Meetings: Every two Weeks Purpose/Activities: The World Affairs Club at Bishop Shanahan High School is composed of students who are interested in International Affairs, including but not limited to issues of economic, social, political, and environmental importance. The Club program runs concurrently with the programs sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia's educational department. The Garrison Leadership Programs offer high school students an opportunity to learn the workings of a Senate Committee and current international issues by playing Ehe roles of senators, cabinet officers, and ambassadors, business executives and members of Congress. Students can also participate in the longest running high school Model U.N. conference as delegates for a day. An integral part of the club is to prepare young people for responsible roles as citizens and future community leaders. By attending conferences and seminars, students learn of the challenges posed by the globalization of our economy and society. Requirements: Interest in role playing and debate, and International Affairs.
