News From Teacher The Spanish Language AP test will be administered in the BSHS library on May 5, 2009. This AP test is now able to be administered in our own school library rather than having the students travel to a local university to utilize their language lab facility. Due to the diligence, foresight and determination of both Sister Maureen Lawrence, our principal and Sister Regina Plunkett, our President, and their effective, scholarly grant writing skills Bishop Shanahan has a state of the art mobile language lab. The World Language Department is grateful to have received a grant from the Connelly Foundation to help finance a Sanako 100 Mobile Language Lab. This lab can be easily wheeled into a regular classroom transforming it into a language laboratory and have students listening to authentic language and responding in "real time" in the target language. An entire classroom of students can now interact in the target language, the teacher can now easily listen to all students utilizing the target language and an entire classroom of students can be recorded at the same time. The teacher saves and collects the material in wav.files, stores those files on a flash drive and can now listen to the students via any computer. The teacher is no longer tethered to cassettes, CD's or specific equipment to create authentic aural/oral assessments and classroom practice. All students of every ability level can now be fully engaged in "authenic" language listening and speaking skills in the classroom; more student engagement leads to higher student interest and achievement. This sophisticated equipment has enhanced the World Language programs beginning with level 1 instruction and continuing through the advanced level classes of World Languages.
