Civic Leadership Institute
Mission/Overview:
Rooted in Bishop Shanahan High School’s mission to form critical thinkers and moral stewards for a rapidly changing world, the Civic Leadership Institute provides students with a focused academic and co-curricular pathway in community service, public policy, and social impact. The program empowers students to become ethical, compassionate leaders who advance the common good and uphold Catholic values and social justice in their communities and beyond. 
 
Application Process:
Students entering 10th grade apply during the course selection process.
Applicants must have:
  • An overall average of 85 or higher
  • A minimum 85 first-semester average in 9th-grade Social Studies and English Language Arts
Components:
  • 4 years/credits of Social Studies
  • Submission of an exemplary Global Awareness Portfolio
  • Capstone - submission of a “social change plan”
  • Participate in Founding Forward’s Spirit of America 4-day immersive experience
  • 3 years of documented, consistent participation in any of the following:
    • Community Service Corps
    • Student Council
    • Cultural Kindness Club
    • Mock Trial
    • Environmental Stewardship Club
    • Respect Life Club
