Bishop Shanahan also partners with the Teacher Leadership Academy run through the Chester County Technical College High School. This highly regarded program gives seniors who are interested in pursuing a teaching career the opportunity to study practical theories regarding teaching and to intern at local schools with professional teachers. The Teacher Leadership Academy is an intensive training program designed to give students in-depth teaching experiences alongside professional teachers.
Top high school seniors develop the skills to be 21st century teachers in the two-credit, college preparatory Teacher Leadership Academy program. The course consists of 7.5 hours/week divided between classroom instruction and internship experience with certified teachers at all grade levels, which results in approximately 147 hours of instruction and 112 hours of internship experience. Students are required to provide their own transportation and purchase college-level textbooks for this course.
Students who have completed the Teacher Leadership Academy have gone on to careers as a certified high school, middle school or elementary school teachers, math specialists, reading specialists, para-educators, school counselors, school psychologists, special education teachers, special education supervisors, school principals, and assistant principals.
