Choirs

Choral Ensemble

A choir whose members are chosen by audition.  The advanced choral literature includes a wide variety of composers and styles. This choir performs in both the Christmas and Spring concert series of Bishop Shanahan High School, as well as, Trinity Church, Wall St., Saint Patrick Cathedral, and Saint John Divine Church in New York City.  This choir is also featured at various diocesan and local events.

Festival Choirs

​All students who meet the high standard are encouraged to audition for the All Catholic Choir.  Students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade are also encouraged to audition for the PMEA District 12 Chorus. Those who qualify earn membership in the PMEA Region Chorus and PMEA All State Chorus.

Mixed Chorus

A ½ credit class, for the year, open to any student who has the desire to sing. No experience necessary for participation. This chorus affords each student the opportunity to develop musically, intellectually, and aesthetically. This choral group performs in the Christmas and Spring concert series at Bishop Shanahan High School and annually is in concert at different venues in New York City. This choir was also featured at the Diocesan Pilgrimage to the National Basilica in Washington, D.C.

A Capella Group (Sha-capella)

Shanahan's A Capella Group, properly named Sha-capella, provides entertainment at the Christmas and Spring concerts. This group is unique in that it sings without instrumental accompaniment.

Liturgical Choir

The Liturgical Choir provides sacred music and accompaniment at the various Masses and liturgies throughout the school year including the Opening Ceremony, Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Closing Ceremony.
