Bishop Shanahan Winter Track Team Competes in Kristian Marche Memorial Invitational

The Winter Track team traveled to the Ott Center on the University of PA campus to compete in the Kristian Marche Memorial Invitational on Sunday and produced some impressive results, including a school record, two medals, 7 personal bests, and 8 performances that rank in the top five in school history. Here are the highlights:

Senior Colin Cregan broke his own school record in the 60m dash with a time of 6.97 in the prelims. He followed with a 7.00 in the finals to earn a third-place medal. Colin now has the four fastest times in school history in the 60 and his time is the 10th fastest in the state of PA this season.

Junior AJ Nesbit earned a silver medal in the pole vault with a personal best jump of 12’6”. His vault makes him the 3rd best indoor vaulter in Shanahan history.

In her first competition ever in the pole vault, freshman Gina Thibault finished 4th with a vault of 7’6” to make her the 2nd best indoor vaulter in school history.

Sophomore Connor Todd became the 4th fastest 3000m runner in BSHS history with a time of 9:30.31. Connor’s time was a PR and good for a ninth-place finish.

Sophomore John Simpson equaled his personal best in the high jump with a leap of 5’6”. He placed 10th and is now the third-ranked indoor high jumper in school history.

Ethan Katz vaulted 9’0” to top his personal best in the pole vault by a foot and place him 4th on the all-time Shanahan list.

In what might seem like a weird highlight, the boys 4x200 relay got disqualified for a handoff outside of the zone. Why is it a highlight? Because the faulty handoff slowed them down and they still ran 1:30.95 - the second fastest time in the meet and what would have been the second fastest 4x200 time in school history, trailing only the 2017 state championship relay team. It is early in the season, and they have several more shots to do something special. The relay team members are Aidan Civitella, Greg Palaia, and Colin Cregan.

Chris Leahy jumped 35’11.5” in the triple jump, just shy of his PR. He is now the 4th longest indoor triple jumper in Shanahan history.
