Ches-Mont Track and Field Championship Meet Results
The Bishop Shanahan Track and Field squad continued their string of successes this season at the Ches-Mont Championship held at Coatesville High School on Wednesday, May 7. The team set two school records, earned medals in 20 events, and recorded 12 personal bests. Here are some highlights:
- Steven Todd brought home the gold medal in the 1600 as he pulled away from the field in the last stretch to win by 10 meters in a time of 4:19.01. He followed that with a second-place finish in the 800 ninety minutes later with a time of 1:58.99. His 18 points for the team were the most by any Shanahan athlete. Steven has qualified for next week’s District Meet in the 800, 1600, and 3200. He was a member of the Penn Relays 4x400 that missed Districts by one second.
- Payton Nolan set a school record and narrowly missed two more enroute to earning medals in all three of her events. She started the record parade by finishing in 2nd place in the 100 with a blistering time of 12.49 to beat Ava Ceulers’ previous school record of 12.64. In the 200, Payton finished 4th in 26.25 qualifying for Districts and narrowly missing her own school record by 0.09 seconds. She was also a member of the 4x100 relay team that finished 5th in 49.95, missing the school record by a scant 0.08 seconds. Payton has now qualified for Districts in an incredible four events.
- Aiden Civitella was our only 4-medal winner on the day. His leap of 21’9.5” in the long jump was good for 2nd place. He had to miss the finals of the triple jump due to an event conflict, but still managed a 7th-place medal. He also finished 7th in the 100 (11.17) and was a member of the school-record setting 4x100. Aiden has qualified for Districts in the long jump, 100m, and 4x100.
- Colin Cregan was another triple medal winner and is another triple District qualifier. Colin’s time of 22.58 was good for 3rd place in the 200. His time of 10.94 earned him 5th place in the 100 and he anchored the school record-setting 4x100 relay.
- Sophia Ceulers was yet another three-time medalist. Her jump of 34’0” in the triple jump was good for 6th place. She finished 8th in the long jump with a leap of 15’2.25” and was a member of the 4x100 relay that finished 5th and has qualified for Districts.
- Bella Ertle’s discus toss of 96’11” earned her a 5th-place medal and her shot put of 31’0.75” was a personal best and placed her 9th.
- Ella Krapf’s jump of 4’10” in the high jump was good for a fifth-place medal.
- Senior Gianna Scarantino wrapped up her stellar Shanahan track career with a 6th place medal in the long jump (15’3.75”).
- Freshman Madie Kruzek anchored the medal winning 4x100 team and ran a personal best 1:02.19 in the 400 minutes later – narrowly missing a medal (9th place).
- Elan Madanat crushed his javelin personal best by 13 feet. His throw of 131’5” was good for a 7th place medal.
- Showing that the future is bright for the Shanahan distance runners, the 4x800 team placed 6th with three freshman and a sophomore – Daniel Zimmermann (2:07), Connor Todd (2:10), Parker Serock (2:10) and Mitchell Croll (2:15).
- The girls 4x800 team also medaled (7th place) with two freshman on the team – Ava Esposito, Fiona Bonass and Amelie Hangey each carried the baton for the team.
- Ciall Ashman obliterated her personal best in the 300 hurdles to earn a 9th place finish in 51.83 seconds.
- Sophomore James Kyle smashed his personal best in the 400. His time of 52.37 was good for 16th place. He also was a member of the 4x400 relay that earned a 4th-place medal.
- Greg Palaia got a pair of 4th place medals in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays and also placed 14th in the 100 with a time of 11.66.
- Josephine Regan led off the 4x100 team that medaled and earned a spot in the District Meet next weekend.
- Senior Owen Whitaker ran a personal best 2:06.51 to close out his outstanding Shanahan career. He also ran a 4:38 1600.
- Freshman Joe Tabella’s high jump of 5’4” tied his personal best and was good for 15th place.
- Grace Topping’s leap of 28’3” in the triple jump was good for a personal best.
- Logan Valenza’s newly acquired 300m hurdle prowess was good for a personal best time of 51.29 seconds.
