Cross Country | District 1 Championship Results

The boys' and girls' cross country teams traveled to Lehigh University to compete in the AA Division (mid-size schools) of the District 1 Cross Country Championship Meet.  The boys’ team finished in 3rd place and the girls came in 7th. In the process, the teams had three individuals qualify for the State Championship meet which will be held this Saturday in Hershey.

Boys' Cross Country Highlights

  • Steven Todd led the way for the Eagles by defending his District Title with a time of 15:54. This is Steven’s third consecutive State Meet. Last year, he earned a 13th place medal and hopes to improve upon that this season.
  • Despite battling illness, Owen Whitaker was able to tough out a 4th place finish to earn his third consecutive trip to States. He was 50th in the State last year and hopes to earn a spot on the medal stand this year (top 25).
  • Following Steven and Owen across the line for the boys were freshmen Connor Todd (14th place), Ben Leinhauser (22nd with a PR of 18:47), Logan Valenza (30th), Greg Palaia (31st), and Patrick McRee (34th).

Girls' Cross Country Highlights

  • To earn her first trip to States, Ava Esposito executed a great strategic race to finish in 19th place with a time of 21:49. Ava was 36th at the 1k mark and worked her way into a State-qualifying spot by the finish.
  • Also recording high finishes for the girls were Julia Taylor, whose 25th place finish in 22:10 missed qualifying for States by a mere 9 seconds, and Katie Kolimago whose time of 23:04 was her fastest ever on the Lehigh course and good for 31st place. Erin Altringer (42nd), Teagan Welsh (50th), Grace Topping (51st), and Lauren Calla (55th) rounded out the scoring for the girls.
