Girls' & Boys' Track Team at Ocean Breeze Invitational

The boys' and girls' winter track teams participated in the Ocean Breeze Invitational in New York City, one of the largest and most competitive indoor track events in the country, which included 386 schools from 11 different states. The Shanahan runners stepped up to the level of competition with some outstanding performances.

Girls' Team Highlights

Meghan Willis - her time of 5:09.72 in the mile was good for 9th place out of 238 milers and moved her to #8 in PA for the season. She followed her mile performance with a school record of 1:03.44 in the 400. Meghan now holds indoor school records at 400, 800, 1500, and 1600 meters.

Maddie Grigalonis produced a pair of personal bests as well. She lopped 7 seconds off her 800 with a time of 2:46 to finish 9th out of 68 in her section. She followed with a personal best of 1:07.89 to finish 2nd out of 49 in her section of the 400.

Penelope Loeper had to dust off her hurdling skills when runners in front of her collided and fell. Although it certainly had an impact on her time, she still managed to finish 48th out of 238 in the mile with a time of 5:38.

The Shanahan sprinting duo of Gabby Scarantino and Abby Hetzke competed in both the 55- and 200-meter dashes. Gabby’s time of 8.22 in the 55 was good for 33rd place out of 57 in her varsity section. Abby’s time of 8.89 was good for 27th out of 64 in her sophomore section.  They both came back in the 200 with solid runs.

Ava Esposito competed at the mile in her first indoor meet ever. Nothing like competing in front of 5000+ people in your first such meet. She handled the pressure well.
