Girl's Track at Ocean Breeze Invitational
Payton Nolan, Josephine Regan, Jennifer Harris, Abby Hetzke, and Lauren Serpentine of the Shanahan girls' track team represented the school at the Ocean Breeze Invitational in Staten Island, NY on Sunday, February 2. This is the largest indoor invitational in the country with thousands of athletes from hundreds of schools competing. The Lady Eagles picked up where the boys left off on Saturday with stellar performances from all five athletes. They cranked out 10 personal bests, earned two gold medals, and set two school records. It is quite extraordinary to have team members run personal bests in every race of the day – 10 for 10.
Payton Nolan had a career day with victories in the sophomore 55 and 200. She now owns the top two sophomore times in Ocean Breeze Invitational history at 55m. Her 7.32 in the prelims set the record and her 7.33 in the finals is second best. She followed that with another impressive victory in the 200 with a time of 25.86. Payton obliterated her own school records in both events.
Josephine Regan was also on fire in the 55 and 200, winning her heats in both. Her times of 8.01 in the 55 and 28.75 eclipsed her previous indoor records.
Not to be outdone, Jennifer Harris also won both of her heats. Her time of 8.63 in the 55 crushed her old PR of 9.14, and her time of 31.55 in the 200 was faster than her previous best - indoors or outdoors.
Abby Hetzke matched her teammates’ feats with a personal best time of 31.20 in the 200 and an 8.89 in the 55 to tie her PR.
To complete the perfect day, Lauren Serpentine ran personal bests in the 55 hurdles (10.38) and the 200 (30.31).
It was an extraordinary day for Payton, Josephine, Jennifer, Abby, and Lauren. Congratulations to all of them.
