GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY, TRACK and TRACK & FIELD NEWS
The BSHS girls had another strong day at the Polar Bear meet held at Henderson High School on Saturday, February 27th. The events contested were the 400, the long jump, and the 1600. Other participating schools were Henderson, West Chester East, Rustin, Downingtown East, Downingtown West, Great Valley, Unionville, and Avon Grove.
The 400m squad got us off to a strong start with Ava Ceulers, Kathleen Delate, Olivia Miller, Rebecca Hangey, and Deborah Uhlman placing 8th, 9th, 14th, 21st, and 22nd respectively in a field of 36 runners. Deborah obliterated her 400m PR by an incredible 4.27 seconds in the process.
Ava Ceulers followed her 400m performance with a strong 2nd place finish in the long jump. Despite this being the first meet of the season where the long jump was possible, a bit of a headwind working against the jumpers today, and weeks of weather preventing us from having any jumping practice, Ava posted three solid jumps of 16'6", 16,5", and 16'3". Kathleen Delate followed with a 6th place finish.
The 1600m runners closed out a strong day for the Eagles. Carlyn Segrave-Daly led the way with a 5:47 to finish 5th overall. Nora Kyle (6:08) and Penelope Loeper (6:12) followed in 13th and 17th place respectively. Julia Bennett lowered her personal best to 6:18 to finish 21st, and Julia Jermyn destroyed her PR to finish 26th in a time of 6:47.
The Winter Track season concludes at next Saturday's Polar Bear Championship meet. The hard work of the team through the nasty winter weather will surely pay off this Spring.

Indoor Track Update
The Shanahan girls had another solid outing at the Henderson track. It was another day of frigid temperatures, but the wind was only blowing at 10mph compared to 18mph last week. It was almost, but not quite, a tropical paradise out there. Amazingly, the eleven BSHS girls participating managed four personal bests, and three personal second bests. In the process, everybody competed well, earning four heat victories, two seconds, and three thirds. Participating schools were Henderson, WC East, Rustin, Kennett, Downingtown East, Downingtown West, Unionville, Avon Grove, Great Valley, and Bishop Shanahan. Events held were the 200m dash and the 800m run.
Here are the highlights:
