Councils & Societies

There are many student leadership opportunities at BSHS, some of which include the many councils and societies.

Student Council

The Bishop Shanahan High School Student Council is not just a group of students elected by their peers; they are leaders in the community who uphold a high level of morality, address the concerns of their peers, and organize student events and activities. Student Council includes homeroom representatives, class representatives, and the Student Council Executive Board (EBCO).

Leadership Council

The Leadership Council includes all presidents and vice presidents of clubs, as well as all captains of sports teams. This group of school leaders meets once a month, attending morning mass together and sharing news about their respective club or sport. The goal of Leadership Council is to ensure a connected school community and supported student leaders.

National Honor Society (NHS)

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The BSHS NHS peforms at least 10 hours of community service each quarter and provides regular peer-to-peer tutoring opportunities. NHS also assists regularly at various school events and fundraisers.

Language Honor Societies

BSHS sponsors a chapter for the National Spanish Honor Society, National Italian Honor Society and National French Honor Society. Each of these societies gives recognition to achievements in a respective language, and promotes a greater understanding and appreciation of that culture and civilization.

Tri-M Music Honor Society

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is a program of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), which focuses on creating future leaders in music education and music advocacy. The program recognizes students that have gone above and beyond both academically and musically. It also provides students with leadership opportunities to make a difference in their community through music-based service projects.
